Announcing the Birth of Delish Gourmet Blends!
WHAT a Magical Mystery Tour we have been on for the past couple of years…
From crafting homemade bath bombs and jams to venturing into the realm of preserves, bottled peaches, beans, soya meals, and various sweet temptations, our culinary odyssey has taken us to unexpected places, with each venture adding a new layer to our story.
Our journey began with a passion for creating and sharing delightful homemade products. The Farmer’s Markets became our canvas, where we experimented with an array of offerings, adding a touch of magic to each creation. Little did we know that our destiny would take a turn towards the spicy and flavourful.
The Birth of “Chilli Krisp”
In July 2023, under the canopy of the Willowbridge Slow Market, we introduced our first chilli crisp under the captivating label “Gemaskerde Wonder” (Masked Wonder). We also introduced this new and exciting condiment on various markets up the West Coast – it was very well-received.
We decided to alter our recipe somewhat, making it more local-centric. We also changed up our brand to a more youthful look, under the banner “Chilli Krisp”. This marked a pivotal moment, as the fiery allure of our Chilli Krisp captured the hearts and taste buds of those who ventured into the world of unique flavours.
The Magical Carpet Ride
What followed can only be described as a magical carpet ride that lasted for the next 9 months.
The Chilli Krisp Brand began as a singular spark, consisting of only one product, but soon evolved into a symphony of flavours, each note representing a lesson learned and a milestone achieved.
The journey from crafting a single product to expanding the range to include Original, Black Bean, HOT, and Ukhwatho has been a transformative experience. We experienced the highs of success and the valuable lessons that come with navigating the business landscape.
The decision to broaden our product range marked a significant shift from a singular focus to a diverse array of offerings. Life suddenly became all business, and as we ventured into uncharted territory, we found ourselves immersed in a world of trial and error. The expansion brought with it a steep learning curve, with each lesson serving as an expensive but invaluable school fee.
Navigating Markets
From small local markets to medium-sized venues and grand events, we explored various avenues to get our products out into the world. The journey involved deciphering which markets were conducive to our product’s success and learning the art of knowing when to say “enough.” It was a journey of resilience, adaptability, and understanding the nuances of different markets.
Venturing into the Unknown
Taking on sizable events such as the Christmas in Winter Market in Tulbagh, the Swartland Landbou Skou in Moorreesburg, and the Skeppend Christmas Market @Allee Bleau, we embraced the unknown with open arms. As ‘babes in the woods,’ we faced the challenges of estimating stock needs and navigating the logistics of larger-scale events. Yet, in the face of uncertainty, we emerged stronger, armed with the knowledge that what doesn’t break us only serves to make us more resilient.
Culinary Creativity & Mediterranean Magic
Dipt’s Playful Entrance
In the ever-evolving world of culinary delights, Dipt came bounding into the picture like a playful toddler. Vibrant labels and quirky names that sparked curiosity abounded. Guided by our indomitable “Chef du Jour,” the creativity soared to new heights, introducing the Western Cape to a range of delectable offerings that captivated taste buds far and wide.
Dipt quickly became a sensation, taking the Cape by storm! From the initial offerings of Garlic Aioli, Dijonnaise, and Herbs de Provence, the range expanded like an unleashed bloodhound on the scent of culinary innovation. The once playful toddler of Dipt soon matured into a formidable force in the world of condiments.
Expanding the Palette
The journey didn’t stop at the classics; Dipt’s repertoire grew to include an enticing array of flavours, such as Chilli Infused, Olive & Onion, Peppadew & Garlic, Honey & Sesame, Lemon Infused, Fig & Garlic, and more. The commitment to pushing flavour boundaries is evident, as the list continues to grow, offering a taste adventure for every palate.
Sneaky Intrusion by Chopi Chopi™
In a delightful twist, Chopi Chopi™ made a discreet entrance in late December, quickly capturing hearts and taste buds alike. This bottle of seemingly nondescript ingredients harboured the exquisite fusion of sundried tomatoes, olives, feta, garlic, and herbs, embodying all the beauty and sun-kissed romance of the Mediterranean.
The taste of Chopi Chopi™ transcended the ordinary, becoming a culinary revelation that left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to experience its Mediterranean Magic. Each bottle holds not just a condiment, but a celebration of taste, creativity, and the joy of culinary exploration.
